Interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine the layout, dimensions, and materials required for steel structures;
Select and prepare structural steel materials, such as beams, columns, and girders, for fabrication and installation;
Weld, bolt, or rivet steel components together to assemble structural frames, bridges, and other steel structures, following welding procedures and industry standards;
Operate rigging equipment, such as cranes, hoists, and winches, to lift and position steel components into place;
Secure steel structures in place using bolts, anchors, and other fasteners, ensuring stability and structural integrity;
Perform welding, cutting, and grinding tasks to modify steel components and remove excess material as needed;
Assist in the layout and marking of steel components for fabrication and installation, ensuring accuracy and precision;
Conduct inspections and quality control checks of completed work to verify compliance with project requirements and industry standards;
Follow safety regulations and guidelines on job sites, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to established safety protocols.
Previous experience as an ironworker or a related field required, with at least 3 years of experience preferred;
Proficiency in welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, with certification preferred;
Knowledge of structural steel components, fabrication methods, and industry standards;
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications;
Strong mathematical skills and the ability to perform accurate measurements and calculations;
Physical stamina and strength to perform tasks that may involve lifting, bending, and working at heights;
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
